Social media strategies that work

How to increase public exposure, screw the biased mainstream American news media and reach Americans unfiltered on your own.

By Ray Hanania

The mainstream news media has done a great job of controlling the message and if they like you, you get coverage. If they dislike you, you get criticism and little coverage of your message.

But the Internet and Social Media offer alternatives to allow you to get your message directly to the public without having to be filtered by the biased mainstream American news media.

You need a website, but a blog will do. Not just any blog. To maximize exposure, setting up a blog with Google, using Blogger.com, for example, is a good start. Set up a mirror page using WordPress, too. Link the two blogs together (Blogger.com and WordPress.com).

Google is the number one online source for news and information. That’s where the majority go. You can put yourself on Google very easily simply by using Google’s social networking system.

Create a blog. Keep it simple. Promote the blog on your Facebook account and on LinkedIn. No one uses MySpace.com any more.

Make sure the Blog has a good title (under 45 words); a strong lede sentence (under 30 words. Make sure you use the editing tools to designate a subheadline in the body of the post as H3, bold and italics. The subheadline should start with the headline, and followed by one or two sentences more that summarize your post.

Make sure it has your byline (By Ray Hanania) and designate it H2, bold.

Add tags. Select an image you own and place it in the story and designate it as the feature photo for the post. Make sure the photo image has descriptive text.

The story should be at least 600 to 800 words. Don’t put more than three hyperlinks in the body of the story.

Add a “shirttail” which is the italicized parenthesis that is the last sentence of the post that describes your “authority” in one sentence, and includes an email so that readers can follow up.

Make sure the URL (online address of the post) includes words, not numbers. These are options you can set using blogger and WordPress.

Set up a Twitter account and a Google+ (Google Plus) account. Link it all together like a net. When you post on your blogs, make sure to post a reference to the post on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ — especially on Google+.

When you are done, edit it and then post it. Once it is perfect, select the first 50 words and the URL address of the post.

Use hashtags to include key search words.

Here is an example:

Post that on Facebook … Post it on Twitter … post it on Google+

The real gold in this strategy is Google+ because Google automatically indexes Google+ posts and gives them a higher ranking in online searching by Google users.

SOME NOTES:

WordPress allows you to include many great plugins. The most important are:

AddtoAnyShare Buttons … a plugin that easily allows you to share your posts on all of your platforms.

Disqus … a system that allows you to network your comments and replaces your WordPress comment system.

Try it and good luck.
